In 1972, a group of local music lovers, many of them concert performers vacationing in Key West, put together
spur-of-the-moment concerts in private homes or at a local club; these were the first truly “impromptu” concerts.
The group incorporated in 1977 under the name Key West Council on the Arts, with the mission of bringing top-caliber musical performances and music education programs to visitors and local residents of Key West and the Lower Keys.
Impromptu Concerts have now presented 36 continuous seasons in a variety of performance venues, more recently, the beautiful and historic setting of St. Paul’s Church and at The Tennessee Williams Theatre.
We remain an all-volunteer board, with no paid executive staff, and are grateful to our many loyal and longstanding supporters in the community.
